Comfort Emmanson, a real estate consultant and passenger involved in the widely publicized Ibom Air incident, has publicly shared her traumatic experience following the controversial events that led to her arrest, arraignment, and eventual release by a Lagos court. TheGenius Media Nigeria reported her detailed account in a video posted on her Instagram page, revealing the emotional and physical toll the incident has taken on her life.

The incident unfolded on August 10, 2025, during a flight from Uyo to Lagos. Emmanson recounted how a flight attendant named Juliana demanded that she switch off her phone instead of putting it on flight mode. Emmanson explained that one of her phones had a faulty power button, making it impossible to turn off in the usual way. Despite her explanation and assistance from a fellow passenger to power down both devices, tensions escalated.

Upon landing in Lagos, the situation worsened when the crew member allegedly blocked her from disembarking the aircraft. Emmanson began recording the confrontation on her phone, which provoked the attendant to physically assault her—pushing her back into the plane, dragging her wig frontal, tearing her clothes, and breaking her necklace. Emmanson described the pain as unbearable and insisted she did not provoke the attendant, emphasizing that she would never harm an elderly woman.

Videos that later surfaced showed Emmanson being forcibly removed from the aircraft, her clothes torn and body exposed. This public humiliation has left deep psychological scars. She lamented that her image has been spread extensively across social media to the point where her body has been turned into stickers, making it impossible for her to go out freely without feeling traumatized and victimized.

She expressed frustration over the various false narratives circulating, including victimization and libel. Her main desire is to regain her dignity and move past the trauma. She acknowledged that her emotional response might have been shocking to some but clarified that it stemmed from the intense pain and humiliation she endured. Emmanson apologized for any perceived misbehavior, stressing that she is neither crazy nor wayward and that she has never encountered such a traumatic experience in her life before.

The incident has sparked widespread discussion and further legal actions, including a reported ₦500 billion lawsuit filed by Emmanson against Ibom Air, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), and other entities involved.

Comfort Emmanson’s story highlights critical issues around passenger rights, airline conduct, and the impact of public shaming in the social media age. Her ordeal serves as a sobering reminder of the need for compassionate treatment and respect for individuals, regardless of the circumstances.
