“I regret to myself for being hardworking. The stress and mental ability that goes into this type of work, especially with a lot of odds against me, is draining me. But I have to do it. It’s not for the money; I have billions of dollars waiting for me. Even if I don’t work again in my life, I have billions of dollars. But I’m working because I love my job and my fans,” Davido explained.

His candidness offers a glimpse into the pressures faced by artists who, despite financial security, push themselves to meet the demands of their craft and fanbase. It underlines the emotional and mental challenges that come with fame and success, which are often overlooked in public narratives focused solely on wealth and glamour.

In a related development, Nigerian rapper CDQ revealed that Davido once offered him a record deal, underscoring Davido’s role as a mentor and investor in the African music scene. CDQ recounted on Echoo Room that after the success of his hit singles “Indomie” and “Nowo E Soke,” Davido reached out to him on social media with an offer to sign him. The plan was for Davido to invest profits from his African tour into CDQ’s career to elevate him as the biggest rapper in Africa.

However, the deal fell through due to disagreements over terms. CDQ insisted that his producer, Masterkraft, be involved in the negotiations. During a meeting, Masterkraft proposed a partnership arrangement instead of a traditional record deal, noting that CDQ already had a strong independent following. Davido declined this proposal, leading to the collapse of the potential partnership.

“Davido reached out to me through Twitter back then, that he wanted to sign me. He told me he just made a lot of money from his African tour and wanted to invest it in money and make me the biggest rapper in Africa. I told him whatever I’m doing, Masterkraft has to be involved. So, me and Masterkraft went to a meeting with him, and he told him that CDQ is already a movement on the streets and should consider a partnership instead of a recording deal but Davido declined and the deal fell through,” CDQ shared.

This episode not only reveals Davido’s influence and willingness to support upcoming artists but also highlights the complexities involved in navigating record deals and partnerships in the evolving African music industry.
